What's New?

The new iMovie 8... Along with the rest of iLife 8! While I do not have this program in my hot little hands yet, I have heard "bad things". The main issue being most all your 3rd party plugins are NON-FUNCTIONAL. I have confirmation of the from Bruce Gee himself. The good news is if you are not familiar with the old iMovie you will probably LOVE the new iMovie with all its new features and library . For those upgrading it will keep a copy of the "old" iMovie 6 HD on your system. This way you can learn the new iMovie while keeping all your old projects intact. I myself am on vacation but will be back next week with a copy of the program and hopefully s ome tips to help everyone out.

Is there a iMovie program for Windows?
What Camcorder should I buy?
Should I just buy a still camera with movie functionally?
Should I buy a High Definition (HDV) camcorder?

Beta Store: iMovie FAQ suggestions

In preparation for iLife 6 and the all new iLife products you may want to make COPIES of your original applications (iMovie, iDVD, etc) BEFORE upgrading to iLife 6. You can do this by closing the application then using the finder to make a duplicate. (Command-Click Duplicate) duplicate with finder

Then Rename the App "iMovie 5 " (or whatever version you have). Be sure to check permissions and clean out your caches after installing. Heck, you may want to clone your whole drive before installing iLife, "just in case".

I would also recommend FINISHING all you old projects in iMovie first THEN starting new projects with iMovie 6 HD. That or COPY the media folder from your old iMovie project to the new project folder. This way if the project file get corrupted you will have the old backup copy.

Main

Are you frustrated with iMovie? The iMovie 3 fixes and issues page is back up and the iMovie 4 still exists, the iMovie 5 HD page has been updated as well as the new iMovie 6 HD Fixes page. I suggest you read this page first before doing anything too drastic (such as reload). That is not to say that backing up your home directories and reloading the operating system is a bad idea. This is true especially if you have upgraded your system a few times (for instance you ran 10.x, 10.1.x, 10.2.x, ) and/or if you have ran "haxies" in the past.
